MORATTI-LEO: CONTACT

The idea: to remake the Inter from the desk.
The former Inter coach will leave Paris. The president is tempted a return as a director.

Milan – They have never stopped hearing from one another. For a few weeks now, their conversations started to have a key word: return. Massimo Moratti has always had a soft spot for Leonardo and it’s never broken. So much so that already the last season, there were voices on the hypothesis of him coming back to the club. Beyond the cordial relationship, these two over the past few months have had discussions on the hottest topics including the transfer market of course.

Return The appreciation of Massimo Moratti for Leonardo started to come to realization just before Christmas of 2010 when the Inter president was the one that pushed for the appointment of former Milan player as Inter coach after Rafael Benitez. And if it was not for the call of the Qatari sheikhs, the Brazilian would still be in Milan, the black and blue side. Let’s not forget that Leo left Inter was because of his desire to change his role. Or rather, to return to the work that had formed him a long internship at Milan from 2002 to 2009 and then Adriano Galliani called on him to replace Carlo Ancelotti as coach.

Mou wind Now fate has it that Al Thani has made up his mind to bring to Paris the pair of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jose Mourinho. The appointment of the coach from Setubal guarantees difficulty for Leonardo although the two have always had a friendly relationship.

Nostalgia In this context, it is easy to understand how the Italian-Brazilian director appears to be very receptive to the signals coming from the black and blue president. This season of transition is not bringing the desired results and so Massimo Moratti is considering the idea of strengthening his management team with a proven man, one that has his confidence. Certainly Leonardo has many necessary qualities to turn the page of a club that is struggling to change its sink after the glory of the treble season.

The present At this time the conditions are not right to foresee any further changes at Inter. The current management team has Marco Branca as technical director and Piero Ausilio as sporting director. Clearly a Leonardo comeback would see them working side by side again. But we must stress that the actual state of affairs suggests no revolutions in Corso Vittorio Emanuele. Surely the feeling between Inter president Massimo Moratti and the Brazilian director is the signal that could give us news regardless of whether or not Inter can achieve the goal of qualifying for next season’s Champions League, considered by Moratti as the priority. Andrea Stramaccioni still enjoys the full trust of his discoverer or Massimo Moratti and that is why the coach is not in question. However, one thing is certain: everyone is under exam these days at Inter. The recent statements from the president were also directed at the players. The wind of change is likely to lead to all corners of Appiano Gentile.

I don’t think a name does it all – Zanetti doesn’t know who to work that role at all, so I guess we should stick to one of the two; Branca or Ausilio and get in Leo – he has proven his work in finding and also BUYING talented players, first at Milan and now at PSG!

Zanetti has said time and again that he wouldn’t want to work as a director. He’d prefer working at Pinetina.
