According to an article by Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky, “at Inter, Strama is still the master of his fate and the relationship with Moratti does not seem to have dampened after these heavy defeats. But without a speedy redemption, his position would naturally lose strength and in that case, Inter will not neglect at all the temptation called Diego Simeone.”

Simeone renew his contract, even if Stramma got sacked, the argentinian won’t be sitting on our bench next season.

Nothing official, just a rumor. Besides, coaches renewing contract does not seem to mean a lot. Renewing one day, leaving the next is a normal thing.

I know, but Atletico Madrid it’s not a top spot contender on la Liga or in any other competition, so it’s less likely he’ll lose his prestige on the spanish club as long as he’s doing good enough, means he has less chance of leaving, specially because his release clause is now 26 M euros, right? Even if we convinced Simeone to come, we would still have to pay a considerable amouth of money to Atletico. Probably not gonna happen.

26 million for a coach? Oooh thats new. Madrid robbed us of Mou then.

          • Rafael Vieri

You can have a release clause of how much you want on every player or coach. Not uncommon, it’s just so the big clubs don’t steal the emerging coaches right away, although obviosly it’s just a number, nobody would pay, but still, that means to get him we would have to pay 3 or 4 millions to convince Atletico to let him go, and maybe it’s not worth it for a coach.

We wanted to get Villas Boas at one point but his release clause was 10 mil. Why did Mou not have one I wonder.

          • Inter DiHati

Mourinho had a release clause, but there was one agreement that if he can win a CL with Inter he’s free to go…that was what happened i think

          • hasse77

I’m quite sure that we got 10 million for Mourinho.

          • hasse77

            10 million for Mourinho too.

On the local Calcio news here, the analyst actually claimed that amongst the reasons for his contract renewal was that he himself had faith in Strama leading Inter and that this is just a dip in form, in-detail. I did not know that Simeone had connected with Strama and Moratti already, but I suppose there is always respect and communication with a player of his level.

I loved Simeone as a player, he was so brutal and wanted to win at all costs. Still, he’s just as unproven as Stramacioni, so , at least for me, change one for the other would be the same. They both need more experience before sitting on Inter’s bench. Still, Since Stramma is already here, might as well stay until he’s experienced enough.

        • Edinterista

          You have a point.

          • luchochapa

he also win with river plate, estudiantes and saved catania for relegation

        • Mercer

          Just as unproven as Strama?

          1. Simeone has been coaching since 2006, he came to Atletico in 2011 and has won the Europa League pluss the UEFA Super Cup.

          2. He was a great player, so he has much more dressingroom experience having played with great players and great coaches.

          3. Simeone is an Interista who is well known and respected among the fans and I would also asume the players.

          See the point?

          • Rafael Vieri

I see it, just don’t agree to your point of view.

1- You’ve named 2 minor throphies that literally means nothing. Like I said, if you win something pointless like that with A.Madrid you’re in the Sky, but if you win something like that at Inter it’s the same as nothing. Remember when Benitez was Fired after winning the World Championship? It’s the same situation. If Simeone had won 2 la liga titles or UCL titles, like Mourinho won 1 with porto, we would not be having this conversations.

2- Having what you call “dressing room experience” by no means define a great coach, There are tons of ex players that get nowhere with their coaching career. Then again, Mourinho was never a player.

3- Yes he is, but the same goes for Figo, Mihajlovic, Zenga and all other great stars we used to have. Stll, I don’t want any of them at inter’s bench next season. Like I said, if you must change the coach, you have to do it to get someone who doesn’t need to prove himself as a coach. Wenger, Mourinho or whatever. Ex player’s prestige will get us nowhere, the only thing that actually matters if he is a great coach or not, which Simeone isn’t, not yet. Hopefully, he’ll be and will sit on our bench 10 years in the future, but not now.

This is old, but as I’m just getting some free-time (finally), I don’t mind going back and responding to your points.

You’re spot-on. Who knew Athletico would be doing so poorly in Europa right now? He is just as unproven as Strama.
