Inter closed the January transfer window with the signing of one Diego Laxalt, 19 year-old midfielder who is curently playing for Defensor Sporting. The Uruguayan, however, will not be able to come immediately due to some paper work and the lack of an EU passport. In an interview with FC Inter News, the player talks about the future, expresses his excitement that he is about to become an Inter player.
Diego, Inter came for you. You must be happy…
“It is an immense joy for me. Inter are not only one of the best clubs in the world but I always am a fan of their colors and Chelsea. I can tell you that I always pick Inter on the PlayStation, I am the fan of this club in my real life. This is truly a disbelief, I cannot believe that I will play for Inter.”
On you trail, however, there was Lazio.
“Yes, Lazio were following me, that’s true. It was a good opportunity but their offer for part of my card was almost nothing. Obliviously it is not their fault, they just made an offer.”
Let’s talk about you. Who is your idol, who inspires you?
“My idol at Inter is Javier Zanetti. All of them are good but I admire Zanetti every time I see him play. Currently, however, there are other players that I follow like Messi, Ronaldo, who are unreachable (laughs) as well as Luis Suarez.”
So Lazio followed you but you chose Inter. How come?
“All started from Inter. They were discrete with me because at the moment I am playing at the Sub 20. Inter wanted to acquire me in the summer but my agent has spoken to them. Now they will send an offer for me to leave now so I can start settling in with the new environment. I decided to go to Inter because it was the most clear. I also talked to my parents about it.”
Coming to Inter you will get to play with your countrymen in Pereira and Gargano, Alvaro Recoba also played here as well.
“Pereira, Gargano, Recoba, I do not have a lot to say about them. They are the players that have different characteristics on the field but are great figures in the world of football. Without knowing them personally, I can say that they are examples to follow.”
