Boninsegna: “Inter Bought Midfielders But They Needed Defensive Reinforcements”

“You cannot allow three goals from Siena.” That was the comment of one of Inter greats Roberto Boninsegna after yesterday’s defeat against the Bianconeri. Bonimba also talks about the problems linked to last transfer window.

“They brought in players for the midfield but they needed defenders. The absence of Samuel is being felt tremendously at the club. Milito is also being missed a lot by the team because Inter are missing a first striker and Pazzini is at Milan. Schelotto, Kuzmanovic and Kovacic? They did not do well but the fault is not theirs. Better to see these players when the team is fully back.”

    Defenders? What is wrong with him? What have our defenders done wrong yesterday? NOTHING! Our midfielders f*cked up. Because of them we recieved two goals, only the stupid tackle from Chivu was a mistake from a defender.
    Zanetti has to leave the field or play a leftback, he is not a midfielder and I can’t believe that no coach got that until now. Mourinho was playing him in midfield just because Maicon was so lethal at right wing, so Zanetti was covering his defensive responsibilities.
    We have to switch to 442-diamond midfield. Nagatomo-Ranocchia-Juan-Zanetti with backups in Pereira,Samuel,Silvestre,Mbaya. Guarin-Cambiasso-Kovačić-Kuzmanovič with backups in Gargano, Obi, Schelotto, Stankovič and Benassi. And finally, the attack. Here we are SCRE*ED! Cassano and Palacio with Milito as backup. This is simple football logic and every coach should play like this with such a squad.

      Agree with you mate. Zanetti is not a good midfielder. He has no creativity. Not a good passer. The only good thing is he has the speed & a lot of energy. I just don’t understand why Strama and the previous coaches so desperately play him as a midfielder.

        because there is no place for him anymore except the middle. you want to place him in fullback he would get eaten a live by opponent wing or striker. like totti in week 2. if you play with back four you need fullback to support offence and defence, its lot of energy almost 40years old zanetti couldnt do that anymore.

          then just simply put him on the bench. no great player plays forever. just because we love him so damn much doesn’t mean that he always has to play. Inter is bigger than any player ever exists

          Zanetti as a fullback isn’t that bad. Just remember vs Juve match, Asamoah even almost never pass through Zanetti hahaha. Zanetti also made several crucial tackles and interceptions against Giovinco. But I agree we should have better and younger fullback.

    It seems like everyone talks sense but those involved with the club. I’d much rather the funds raised from selling our best players had gone towards securing a quality young CB (Hummels, Ogbonna, Papadopolous, etc.) and a full back (Debuchy, Santon, Criscito, etc.).

    A strong defense is the foundation for a strong team, however, even with the best personnel, I doubt our defense would function with Stramshit at the helm.

    Maicon – Lucio – Samuel – Zanetti

    This played a large part in our treble victory.
