Juventus and Inter Milan have been fined for the actions of their supporters during Saturday’s Derby d’Italia encounter in Turin. The match saw Inter end a 49-game unbeaten run for champions Juventus as they emerged from the Juventus Stadium with a 3-1 victory. The Italian FA handed the home side a €50,000 penalty after a sustained spell during which objects were thrown onto the pitch. During that spell, a ball of masking tape struck a goal-line official, causing the match to be briefly suspended.

Meanwhile, opponents Inter were ordered to pay €35,000 after toilets at the stadium were damaged and two insulting banners, one of which mocked a 2006 suicide attempt by former Juventus player Gianluca Pessotto, now a club official, were displayed. The document detailing the punishments revealed that both clubs had received “much reduced” fines after working with police to identify and ban those responsible for the offences.
