This is his 18th season with the shirt of Inter, Javier Zanetti is preparing to break even more records at Inter but the two most important records are “that I have been the captain for 12 years and have the most number of games played. Being a foreigner, it is even more special. Then, being the player to play the most games for the Argentinian national team. This is important because it is difficult to represent this country.”
And to think that no one knew him when he arrived here at Inter because between him and Sebastian Rambert, the latter was the more famous one. “When I went on the balcony, the fans had no idea who I was.”
But what is the secret of this longevity?
“First and foremost, preparation. Then the fact that I have always lived with harmony with my family which leads me to only think about football. My secret is to train with great intensity, if possible, the same intensity and rhythm in a real game.”
Finally, Javier Zanetti responded to the question of is this his final season?
“As long as my body allows me, I will continue to play.”
Zanetti’s predecessor Beppe Bergomi, just like all of us, continues to be surprised by the consistency of the performance of the Inter captain. “Once I said jokingly that he could play when he was 50, now I think that he can surely play until 45 years old. Just like Mancini, he can decide when to stop. He is a superhuman,” said lo Zio.
