Speaking to Tommaso Zanotti of Inter Channel, Javier Zanetti talks about the great opportunity of meeting Pope Benedict XVI at the Giuseppe Meazza.

Captain, it was a busy morning for you.  What emotions did you have after the encounter at the Meazza with Pope Benedict XVI?

“Yes, it was a busy morning because I had the opportunity to meet the Pope.  I already met him during a trip with the team in Rome when Roberto Mancini was our coach.  But this time, it was different because I brought my family and it was truly a great emotion.”

You also gave the Pope the Inter shirt with number 16 on the back.

“Yes, the Pope will now have the shirt with his name on the back and this is also the gesture that makes me emotional.”

Benedict XVI also braced your third son Tomas.

“That’s why I said this was a unique experience because with me there was Paula and my children.  The fact that I was able to share this special day with them, in front of his Holiness, is truly emotional.”

The Meazza was packed with 80 thousand spectators.

“San Siro was packed and with so many young people, I think for it was also a special day for all those who were present at the stadium this morning.”

What will you do in the next few days?

“I will have a mini vacation with my family and then immediately think of what next season will be.”
